The High North Center at Nord University invites nominations for two prestigious awards. The deadline is in February.

Who deserves to be recognized for their work in developing the High North?

The search is now on for candidates for both the High North Hero Award and the High North Young Entrepreneur Award. These awards spotlight individuals and enterprises that contribute to shaping the future of the Arctic.

“We need to highlight those who contribute with innovative solutions and new knowledge for sustainable development of the region,” says Andrey Kazakov, advisor at the High North Center and coordinator for the awards.

High North Hero Award

The High North Hero Award honors individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of the High North. The award includes NOK 50,000 and a diploma.

“We are particularly looking for candidates who have contributed to new knowledge about the High North or who have promoted research-based cooperation in the region,” says Kazakov.

Last year’s winner was Dr. Lawson W. Brigham, who received the award for his groundbreaking work in Arctic maritime policy and governance.

Award for young entrepreneurs

Simultaneously, nominations are open for the High North Young Entrepreneur Award. This award goes to innovative startups with connections to the Arctic. The prize is NOK 50,000.

“The jury has the expertise to see the potential in good ideas that are still at an early stage,” notes Andrey.

Last year’s winner, Bodø-based company CapiPro AS, is a prime example of what can be achieved. They develop sustainable fish feed, and are now close to securing their first commercial contract.

“Receiving such recognition from an international audience means a lot. It shows that people believe in what we’re doing,” says CEO Samson Steindal Vonen.
